CAVEEM Safety Razor Review: Is It Good for Beginners?

Aidan Holt4 min read

Is the CAVEEM safety razor worth it? For me, yes. In this CAVEEM safety razor review I shaved off a full Movember beard on camera with the CAVEEM double-edge safety razor, in a bad setup, with barely any shaving cream, and it still did an amazing job. I have no complaints about the razor itself.

CAVEEM sent this razor to me for free to test. It wasn't a paid sponsorship. The full video is above.

What is the CAVEEM safety razor?

It's a double-edge safety razor. One metal handle, one replaceable blade at a time. It's minimal and clean looking, and honestly, I really like the look of it.

I think safety razors are one of the better razors to use because swapping blades is easy. Per CAVEEM's product page, it's made of corrosion-resistant metal, weighs 2.21 oz, and is designed for beginners.

What's in the box

  • The razor
  • Five blades

That's it. It's simple to set up. Five blades should last me about six months, depending on how much you shave.

How I tested it

Movember had just ended, so I had a month of growth to get through. That's a real test.

My routine: I make my face hot first so it's easier to shave. I use a natural shaving cream. I also heat up the razor before I start. I don't know why. It's just something I do.

I started with half my face and the mustache. Then I made a mistake: my face was too dry, and at one point I didn't really have any shaving cream on. It still worked. With just a little water, it got through the hair.

My hair grows straight down and it was pretty long. It still did an amazing job.

What I liked

  • It shaves well even when you do it wrong. No proper prep, dry skin, little cream. It still worked perfectly.
  • It got through a month of growth. Most of my beard came off clean.
  • Easy to clean. Rinse it, unscrew it, and there's no hair left in it.
  • It looks good. Minimal and clean.

How to clean it so it lasts

This is the part that keeps it looking new:

  1. Rinse it after you shave.
  2. Unscrew it. You don't want water sitting inside.
  3. Flip the handle upside down to dry.
  4. Wash the head and let it sit apart until it's dry.
  5. Only put it back together when everything is dry and clean.

That's how I've been using it, and it still looks brand new. CAVEEM's product page gives the same advice: rinse, dry completely, store it somewhere dry.

What I didn't like

Nothing about the razor. The problems in my video were mine. My camera screen was too small to see, so I had to switch to a mirror to finish. And I couldn't film the sides of my face because I needed to see so I didn't shave my actual hair.

One tip if you're coming off a long beard: trim it first. The razor can cut through long hair, but it doesn't have to work as hard if you trim before.

What I didn't test: how many shaves one blade lasts, shaving in the shower (which is how I usually do it), and how it handles sensitive skin over weeks.

Who should buy the CAVEEM safety razor?

  • Beginners who want to try a safety razor without a complicated setup
  • People who like a minimal, all-metal tool

CAVEEM safety razor review verdict: is it worth it?

Even with a bad setup, dry skin and a month of Movember growth, the CAVEEM safety razor did an amazing job. I can't wait to see it do even better in the shower with proper prep. I highly recommend it.
